Review score of the KeepKey Wallet
How does the KeepKey Wallet work?
The KeepKey hardware wallet automatically generates your private key, and all transactions you perform are signed on the device itself. Bitcoins do not leave the device without pressing the physical buttons on the Keepkey together with your PIN. Managing bitcoins is easy with the KeepKey Chrome application, or you can integrate the wallet with an online wallet like MyCelium.
Installation is very easy
- Connect the KeepKey to your computer with the included USB cable, and install the KeepKey Client app in Chrome. During installation, choose a PIN.
- The KeepKey now generates the private key and asks you to write down the recovery sentence. With this recovery, you always have access to your wallet and private keys. Keep it in a safe place!
Security of the KeepKey Wallet
Buying bitcoins is not difficult, but through KeepKey’s security protocols, you do not have to worry about keeping your bitcoins safe.
Should KeepKey suddenly go bankrupt, you can always return to your wallet with the online wallets Electrum and MultiBit.
In addition, the Keepkey uses the BIP39 standard, allowing you to always access your private keys regardless of the company’s existence.
Last but not least, all firmware is 100% open source.
Which coins does the KeepKey wallet support?
On the KeepKey wallet you can also store Ethereum and multiple altcoins in addition to bitcoins, such as Litecoin, Zcash and Dash. The full list:

KeepKey and ShapeShift: trade cryptocurrencies from your hardware wallet
If you activate ShapeShift integration, you can redeem digital currency in the KeepKey application. For example, you can redeem your Bitcoins for Ethers, or vice versa. This is a very useful feature because this allows you to trade your cryptocurrencies in the most secure way possible. Your valuable coins are not on a trading platform, and your private keys always stay on the KeepKey.
